All these policies/issues and more, like Keanu’s Matrix, are simply "systems of control,” and if you'll stick with me, I’ll support my assertion.

To elaborate, the setting of the prices of necessary commodities is a system of control. The powers-that-be can constrict, restrict and dictate behavior by assigning themselves jurisdiction over the pricing and parameters of goods and services. For example, by assuming power over the health care system, the authorities can control citizens’ behavior simply by forcing them to meet arbitrary definitions of healthy eating or a healthy lifestyle, under penalty of forfeiture-of, or disqualification-for benefits.

The same goes for the price of another high-usage commodity: gasoline. By using legislative influence to produce upward pressure on the price of gas, elements in the ruling class can exercise a huge measure of control over discretionary travel; the types of automobiles the public buys, and the costs of goods and services that must be transported to the market.
